Katrina Memorial

The Katrina Memorial serves as a memorial for the worst disaster to hit the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, Hurricane Katrina, in 2005.  The Katrina Memorial sits surrounded by a beautiful lawn of the Biloxi Town Green, located at the foot of downtown on Hwy 90, the beach highway. It was built as a project by the television show Extreme Makeovers Home Edition as one of several projects they have undertaken on the Coast. Work crews constructed the Memorial in only five days, and it was completed on February 16, 2006. The Memorial consists of a mosaic wave, symbolizing Katrina’s storm surge, and a black wall with a glass case filled with personal art from Katrina victims. The granite on top of the black wall marks the water height during Hurricane Katrina. The project included re-landscaping and new sidewalks.
