Disability Connection hosts numerous community events to engage individuals with disabilities. Our annual events include:
-
The Arbor Day Run Walk Roll for Disability Awareness: a fun day emphasizing healthy eating and exercise designed to encourage everyone, even those with disabilities, to experience the fun of a run. 800 + participate.
-
The Art Ability Art Fair and Show: a day of professional art instruction offered free of charge to children and adults ages 8+ with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism. Participants learn to create art in mediums they would have never experience otherwise, and also learn about the benefits of art therapy. 1,500 + participate.
- The “I Love My Playground Party”: A free party! First we will clean-up our playground: plant something green, rake, pick up leaves, and spread mulch. Then we will do an art project, play soccer with MS Gulf Coast Special Needs Soccer, enjoy music, eat lunch, and of course, play. The First Gulf Coast Playground designed for Everyone to Play! Lunch, snacks, and drinks provided. 400+ participate.
- The Community Resource Fair: a day fair with the support of a network of non-profit organizations and government agencies. The purpose is to provide the community the information they need to learn about and connect to the services that will provide them a better quality of life. It is especially designed to assist people with disabilities, veterans, seniors, and families with children, but there will be information for everyone. 600+ participate.
